Salary: Salary will be calculated based on experience and LISD pay scale

 

Primary Purpose: 

Direct and manage LISD boys athletic programs from the junior high school through the high school level and work with the girls coordinator to oversee the girls program as well.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certifications:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to instruct students and supervise student-athletes

Excellent organizational communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of district, state, and UIL policies

Maintain appropriate records and documentation for students, staff, and programs

 

Experience:

Coaching experience/head coach experience preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional strategies:

Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes in the sports assigned. 

Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes. 

 

Program Management:

Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities

Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Oversee compliance of the athletic programs

Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation

Schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements

Develop a process that is data informed to evaluate the district athletic program and make changes based on findings

Develop and provide a variety of student services and programs

 

Student Management:

Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips

Instruct and advise students on NACC regulations

Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation

 

Communication:

Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, administration, teachers, and media

 

Administration:

Select equipment and instructional materials

Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required

Maintain a current inventory

Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing equipment

Provide athletes and coaches orientation, conditioning, and other trainings as required

Oversee the production of the athletic handbook and other publications. Coordinate the master athletic schedule

Provide campus administrative duties when needed

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Evaluate job performance of assistant coaches

Recruit, select, retain, and supervise all athletic department personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, assignments, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

Working Conditions:

Lefors is a small 1-A six-man school.  This position will be the head girls basketball coach. Teaching is open. Possibility of head track.
